  Our Mission

New at Apeaware

To inform people about apes and to help save apes.

The five species of great apes are bonobos, chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, and humans.  Four of these species are endangered of becoming extinct.   It is our job to help protect and save them since it is because of people that so many apes are dying and so much ape habitat is disappearing.  Apeaware especially wants to make sure kids learn about great apes because the kids today are the ones who might be able to save apes tomorrow.

The more we learn about these amazing creatures the more we will understand why it is so very important to protect them.  Please read the information on this site and do everything you can to help save apes.

Apeaware wants to raise awareness that some ape species could be extinct in the next 20 years if we do not take action immediately. Orangutans, bonobos, and mountain gorillas are all critically endangered!  PLEASE go to the How to help page to see what you can do.  One thing you can do is sponsor me for Bowling for Apes.  It is an annual fundraiser that I participate in and I want to help set a new record this year.  If you are interested in sponsoring me or want any more information at all please email me at apeaware@gmail.com.

About me

My name is James and I started the apeaware website because I wanted to do all I could to save apes. Most websites about apes are aimed at adults rather than kids. I wanted a site for both kids and adults. Also, I particularly love bonobos and I don’t think enough people know about them even though they are our closest living relative. I hope that this site will let people learn more about bonobos. The picture on this page is of a bonobo.
